How the AI Works
We believe you should understand exactly how this works. Here's an honest,
plain-spoken explanation of what happens when you ask a question in Dialoga.
What Happens When You Ask a Question
When you tap a verse and type a question, here's what Dialoga sends to the AI:
-
The verse text
The full text of the verse you're reading, in whichever translation you've selected.
If you're using the Greek Interlinear, the word-by-word Greek data is included too.
-
Your question
Exactly what you typed — nothing added, nothing changed.
-
Your preferences
Your denomination, theological orientation, preferred teachers, study level,
and response style. These shape how the AI frames its answer.
-
Recent conversation
The last few messages in your conversation, so the AI can follow the thread
and build on what's already been discussed.
That information is sent to the AI, which generates a response in real time.
The response is streamed back to you as it's written — that's why you see the
text appear word by word.
How Your Settings Shape Every Response
This is what makes Dialoga different from asking a generic AI chatbot about the Bible.
Your theological profile is part of every conversation.
-
Denomination — A Reformed Baptist and a Methodist asking the same question
about the same verse will receive different responses, each grounded in their tradition.
-
Theological orientation — Your views on salvation, Scripture interpretation,
the Holy Spirit's gifts, and end times all inform how the AI approaches a passage.
-
Preferred teachers — If you've selected R.C. Sproul, the AI may reference
his teaching. If you've selected N.T. Wright, the response will reflect a different perspective.
-
Study level — "Beginner" uses plain language and foundational concepts.
"Advanced" goes deeper with original language insights and theological nuance.
-
Translation — The AI works from the actual text of your selected translation.
Different translations word things differently, and those differences shape the response.

What the AI Won't Do
Dialoga is designed with clear boundaries. The AI is a study companion, not a spiritual authority.
- It won't replace Scripture. Every response points back to the biblical text. The AI doesn't generate its own theology — it helps you engage with what's already there.
- It won't replace pastoral guidance. For personal spiritual decisions, pastoral care, or crisis situations, the AI will encourage you to seek guidance from a trusted pastor or counselor.
- It won't pretend to be certain when scholars disagree. When a passage has multiple legitimate interpretations across Christian traditions, the AI acknowledges that rather than presenting one view as the only answer.
- It won't go beyond the Bible's scope. The AI stays focused on Scripture, theology, and biblical context. It's not a general-purpose chatbot.
What Data Is Stored
Almost everything stays on your device. Your preferences, reading history, conversation history,
and Bible text are all stored locally.
When you use the AI chat, your question and context are sent to our server, which forwards them
to the AI (Anthropic's Claude) to generate a response. This data is processed in real time and
is not stored on our servers. We don't sell data, use it for advertising, or track you.

Why We're Transparent About This
We understand that using AI in a spiritual context requires trust. Some people are cautious
about AI — and for good reason. We think the right response to that caution isn't to hide
how things work, but to explain them clearly.
Dialoga is built to help you study Scripture more deeply, not to replace the disciplines
of reading, reflection, and community that have sustained the church for centuries. The AI
is a tool in service of that goal — nothing more, nothing less.
